Chamber Promotes Staff Members and Adds Additional Personnel

The Fort Collins Area Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce the promotion of two staff members, as well as, the addition of two members to its already highly skilled and established team.

Kimberly Medina, formally the Director of Membership was promoted to Vice President of Development and Operations. In her new role, she oversees membership development, the annual Moving Fort Collins Forward! Campaign, the investor relations program of the Chamber’s 5-year key strategic initiative, Northern Colorado Prospers and all internal operations. Kevin Jones, formally the Business Advocacy Coordinator, is the newly appointed Business Advocacy Director. He continues to support and enhance the Chamber’s local government affairs program.

In the past six months, two new members have joined the Chamber staff. Heather Emory came on board as the Events Coordinator. She manages and coordinates all the signature Chamber events and projects, while providing members with key networking and educational opportunities. Jennifer Umland is the latest to join as the Communications Coordinator. She develops and supervises all publicity, media relations, social media, and communications of the Chamber.

“The Chamber has a great staff. They’re a remarkably talented group that serve our members and community well. The promotions of Kim and Kevin are well deserved,” said David May, Fort Collins Area Chamber of Commerce President & CEO. “And Heather and Jenn have had an immediate positive impact as new members of the team.”

The Chamber staff is now made up of 10 employees, filling roles in leadership, finance, membership, events, business advocacy, office management and communications.   Kimberly Medina, Vice President of Development and Operations

Kimberly Medina joined the Fort Collins Area Chamber of Commerce 16 years ago. She has been promoted three times, most recently as Vice President of Development and Operations. Before her promotion, she was the Director of Membership for more than 10 years.

During her time with the Chamber, revenues have doubled and membership has grown to more than 1,230. She oversees membership development, the annual Moving Fort Collins Forward! Campaign, the investor relations program of the Chamber’s 5-year key strategic initiative called Northern Colorado Prospers and all internal operations.

Kimberly earned her bachelor’s degree in Business Management from Colorado State University. She enjoys spending time with her two young daughters.

Kevin Jones, Business Advocacy Director

Kevin Jones joined the Fort Collins Area Chamber of Commerce in February 2013 as the Business Advocacy Coordinator. He is the newly appointed Business Advocacy Director. In his role, he has been support to the Chamber’s local government affairs program covering City Council and a host of other issue related groups and meetings.

Kevin is a Colorado native and a resident of Fort Collins for 45 years, a former President of the Fort Collins Downtown Business Association, served on the Fort Collins Museum of Discovery Board of Directors through the creation of the public-private partnership between the City and the Science Discovery Center and served on the building committee of the new MOD facility located at Cherry and College Ave. Kevin earned his bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Colorado State University and was a post-graduate research assistant in that department for four years.  Kevin doesn’t have any spare time, but if he did, he would enjoy reading, listening to music and doing jigsaw puzzles with his wife Bonnie. Kevin and Bonnie have two children, daughter Shannon who lives in Spain and son Chris who lives in Fort Collins.

Heather J. Emory, Events Coordinator

A Montana native with a diverse background in event management. Heather’s career began in the Air Force as a Protocol Officer at Andrews Air Force Base, Maryland to working at the Air Force Academy, CO Springs as an Event Manager and Military Liaison. After years of working for the Federal Government, she moved to north Fort Collins where she quickly found work with the University of Northern Colorado as a Conference Coordinator and Student Activities Office Manager. She later found and expanded her event and development knowledge working for local non-profits.

Her background and expertise in event planning has led her directly to Fort Collins Area Chamber of Commerce, as an Events Coordinator, where she has described her job as “the most rewarding” because she is able to see how events connect businesses and invite comradery for the good of everyone in the community.

Heather received her bachelor’s degree in Communications at the University of Northern Colorado. She enjoys cycling, hiking, paddle boarding, skiing, and anything outdoors. She has two teenage boys who are also active mountaineers.

Jennifer Umland, Communications Coordinator

Jennifer Umland joined the Fort Collins Area Chamber of Commerce in February 2018 as the Communications Coordinator. In her role, she communicates accurate and timely information to members, the public and other key stakeholders through the Chamber’s social and public platforms.

Jennifer has more than 11 years of experience in communications, public/media relations and marketing. She held a previous role as a Marketing Specialist at St. Renatus, LLC, a local pharmaceutical company, where she helped push a dental anesthetic through the FDA approval process. Before St. Renatus, Jennifer was a reporter at the WindsorNow/Greeley Tribune newspapers.

Jennifer earned her bachelor’s degree in Technical Journalism from Colorado State University. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her husband and two daughters, attending sporting events and concerts and gardening.
