The Gardens on Spring Creek, 2145 Centre Avenue, received a generous gift of $100,000 from UCHealth, a not-for-profit health care system including hospitals and facilities located throughout Colorado, in support of its Potager and Herb Gardens.
This support comes as the city of Fort Collins cultural facility nears completion of five acres of new gardens and an expanded Visitor’s Center and Butterfly House. The Gardens on Spring Creek is the 18-acre community botanic garden of Fort Collins.
“This gift re-ignites a long-standing partnership between UCHealth and The Gardens, and we couldn’t be more grateful for their support,” said Michelle Provaznik, Director.
UCHealth’s gift will bolster The Gardens’ Potager and Herb Gardens near its Outdoor Teaching Kitchen. These areas demonstrate how people can successfully grow healthy vegetables, herbs, and fruits in their own garden. “This generous gift is a testament to the value UCHealth places on community health,” said Darin Atteberry, City Manager. “We are very grateful for their continued care of our community.”
“The Gardens on Spring Creek is one of the gems of our community, and we are proud to be a part of it,” said Kevin Unger, president and CEO of UCHealth’s Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins and Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland. “We hope the Potager and Herb Gardens – and learning that will take place there – will inspire healthy and active lives for generations to come.”
The Gardens on Spring Creek is a city of Fort Collins facility that is operated through a public-private partnership between the City of Fort Collins and the Friends of the Gardens on Spring Creek. The Gardens are currently under major construction, which includes a five-acre garden expansion, a renovated Visitor’s Center, and a new Butterfly House. Grand re-opening is scheduled for late 2019.
