Sunshine, outdoor patios and summer break have been taking over my mind the last week or so.  It is so exciting to see people out and about, supporting our businesses and celebrating a return to the new normal.  I hope that you and your family are also enjoying all that summer has to offer.

But I also need to take over a small bit of your brain to think about action in the name of business.  We have a number of opportunities that are circulating throughout the community that are in need of thoughtful business people.

The Community Foundation of Northern Colorado is launching their next cohort of Water Literate Leaders.  This is an amazing opportunity for citizens to:

  • Actively learn about complex Northern Colorado water issues from all angles including: agriculture, urban, environmental, recreation, and business via presentations, dialogue and field trips
  • Interact and dialogue with regional water leaders for an inside view of issues affecting Northern Colorado’s water future—and participate in visioning activities
  • Build active connections with key stakeholders in the region and state

We are encouraging business leaders to apply for the program and to become part of the solution when it comes to water policy and more.  You can find the application here: https://watercenter.colostate.edu/wll/.  The deadline to apply is July 15.

If water isn’t your favorite topic, I invite you to consider Planning and Zoning.  The City of Fort Collins Planning and Zoning Commission has a very important vacancy and the City Council will be accepting applications for this opening soon.  We have been a long proponent of a predictable process for development in Fort Collins and are encouraging thoughtful, pragmatic individuals to consider applying for this important role.  You can learn more about the Commission here:  https://www.fcgov.com/cityclerk/planning-zoning

While these two opportunities might seem out of season, we hope that business will get involved.  We need your active participation to make a difference in our community.  Our future will be dictated by water policy and thoughtful growth.  You can be part of the solution.
