Shields Street will be closed south of Elizabeth Street for an additional two weeks as part of the bicycle and pedestrian underpass construction. The intersection will be open to traffic Monday, April 3.
During construction, crews discovered a third-party utility line; relocating that line requires an extended full closure of Shields Street. Crews will leverage this additional time to accelerate other elements of the project, reducing the need for single-lane closures this spring and summer. This project is still on schedule to be complete by August.
The Elizabeth and Shields intersection, along with the Moby parking lot, will remain open. Local, residential and business access will also be open. Recommended detour routes are Mulberry, Prospect, Taft Hill and College. The traveling is strongly encouraged to use the designated detour routes to minimize neighborhood near the project.
