She’s been called, “Queen of the Denver Scene,” “Denver DIY Queen” and a “one-woman music industry”. Colorado legend, Wendy Woo will bring her rock, blues, folk, and jazz band to the Lagoon Summer Concert Series Wednesday, July 15 at 6:30 pm on the west lawn of Colorado State University’s Lory Student Center.
A prolific performer and songwriter, Woo makes about 200 appearances each year and has written over 100 original songs on 11 recorded albums. Her most recent album, Tipping Point, released in May of this year, features Woo’s signature guitar style, a technique she calls “Slaptap.” She literally beats her guitar like a percussion instrument, adding an extra edge to the music.
Woo told Denver’s ASX, “If you like double, female-fronted harmony motivated music. If you like electric guitar embellishments as well as acoustic guitar rhythm and percussion effects you will love The Wendy Woo Band. If you like heartfelt original music. If you like unique and creative covers. If you are looking for something in life and you just need a minute to yourself to indulge in good music and fine times, you will love The Wendy Woo Band.”
Born in New York City, Woo grew up in Boulder, Colo. and now resides in Loveland with her husband and two small children. She’s become somewhat of a local legend, drawing audiences of all ages, to her lively and entertaining performances. Oskar Blues Brewery even named a beer after her: Woo Woo Wheat. http://www.wendywoo.com
