FORT COLLINS, COLO. – Dec. 20, 2016 – Outpost Sunsport, a premier outdoors and winter sports shop in Fort Collins, invites the community to a free avalanche awareness class on Wednesday, Jan. 4, 6:30-7:30 p.m. The class will be held at Outpost Sunsport, 931 E. Harmony Rd., and will feature a presentation titled “Avalanche 101: Play Safe in the Mountains” from Lucas Mouttet, owner and lead instructor for Never Summer Outdoor School.

“We want all our customers to stay safe when skiing, snowboarding and enjoying other winter sports,” said Randy Morgan, Owner of Outpost Sunsport. “Thanks to Lucas’s expert advice, the community can avoid dangerous situations on the slopes and make the most of Colorado winters.”

Mouttet is an American Institute for Avalanche Research and Education (AIARE) course leader and brings more than 10 years of experience to the session. He has previously taught avalanche safety to ski patrols, CDOT, military groups, Search and Rescue (SAR) teams, US Forest Service, State Forest Service and recreationists. In his class, Mouttet will cover a variety of topics for beginners and seasoned veterans alike, including the dangers of winter backcountry travel as well as planning, equipment, and signs to look for while spending time in the mountains to decrease the chances of getting caught in an avalanche. Exclusive discounts will be offered on avalanche gear, including probes, shovels, pack and transceivers.
