Nine providers joined the UCHealth team in northern Colorado and southern Wyoming in the first two months of the year.
Dr. Marilu Orozco-Peterson has joined the team of family medicine providers at UCHealth Cheyenne Medical Specialists, 5050 Powderhouse Road.
She believes that a collaborative approach with patients is vitally important in health care.
“Patients and their preferences come first. We work together on health issues using the best of evidence-based medicine and complementary models,” she said.
As a family medicine physician at Cheyenne Medical Specialists, she cares for adults of all ages. Orozco-Peterson is especially interested in women’s health, pap smears, colposcopy, menopause, weight loss, diet, exercise science, diabetes and high blood pressure. Her research interests include Parkinson’s disease and infectious diseases.
“There is no vocation that compares to the reward and excitement I get out of caring for patients,” she said. “The positive changes I see in someone’s life are truly rewarding.”
Orozco-Peterson earned a medical degree from University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine and completed a residency at Christ Hospital Family Practice through University of Illinois.

Dr. Jason Jurva has joined UCHealth’s medical group and is caring for patients at YampaCare Cardiology, a service of Yampa Valley Medical Center, 940 Central Park Drive, Suite 290, Steamboat Springs.
With one in every four deaths in the United States caused by heart disease, Dr. Jurva takes an aggressive approach with the care of many of his patients.
Specializing in cardiology, Jurva is especially interested in coronary artery diseases, valvular heart disease and heart failure. His research interests include identification and treatment of early heart disease.
He earned his medical degree from University of Michigan Medical School. He completed a residency in internal medicine at Medical College of Wisconsin Affiliated Hospitals. He completed a fellowship in cardiology through Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, Wis.

Dr. Gavin Bishop has joined the team at UCHealth Longmont Clinic, 1925 Mountain View Ave.
He specializes in orthopedic surgery and believes in kind and caring interactions with the ultimate goal to get the patient back to activities they enjoy.
Board-certified in orthopedics and sports medicine, he is especially interested in caring for patients with sports injuries, upper extremity and hand conditions and trauma.
Bishop earned a medical degree from The George Washington University. He also completed a residency in orthopedics at Boston Medical Center and a sports medicine fellowship at New England Baptist Hospital.

Dr. Leslie Winter also has joined the team at UCHealth Longmont Clinic.
Specializing in otolaryngology, she cares for patients with diseases and disorders of the ear, nose, throat and related structures of the head and neck.
Winter believes in the patient’s right to participate in decision-making and providing the education about their conditions to make an informed choice. “I believe that frequently there are many choices in how to treat someone and that the right choice depends on the individual,” she said.
She is especially interested in nasal obstruction, restorative/reconstructive surgery and sinus surgery.
Winter earned a medical degree from The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. She also completed a residency in otolaryngology surgery and a fellowship in facial plastics and reconstruction at Boston University School of Medicine.

Dr. Brenda George has joined the team at UCHealth Neurology, 1006 E. Prospect Road, Suite 100, Fort Collins.
As a neurologist, her focus is all on the patient and helping patients improve their quality of life.
“I believe in patient-centered, physician directed approach to medicine with an emphasis on whole-person care and on prevention, when applicable,” she said. “The physician and patient should work as a team in order to come up with an individualized treatment plan to optimize the patient’s physical, social, spiritual and emotional health.”
She is a doctor of osteopathy. She earned a medical degree from Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Dianna Haas, PhD, has joined the team at UCHealth Internal and Family Medicine, 620 Iris Drive, Sterling.
As a professional counselor, she is concerned with a patient’s overall physical, mental and spiritual health. “There exists a wide variety of circumstances, socially and individually, that can prohibit or inhibit the functioning of life,” she said. “My mental health counseling is designed to contribute to the vitality and vigor of the individual as a guide rather than dictator.”
She specializes in experiential play therapy, trauma-focused cognitive behavior therapy, obsessive-compulsive cognitive behavior therapy, anxiety and depression.
Haas earned a PhD from Capella University in Minneapolis and a master’s degree from University of Northern Colorado in Greeley.
Nurse practitioner Rachel Griffin also has joined the team at UCHealth Internal and Family Medicine in Sterling.
As a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner, Griffin takes an integrative, whole-person approach to managing mental health care. She is especially interested in mood disorders, anxiety disorders, trauma, post-traumatic stress disorder, psychotic disorders, eating disorders and personality disorders. She also has experience in co-morbid substance abuse and helping patients with complicated medical co-morbidities.
Griffin earned a master’s degree in psychiatric-mental health nursing from Columbia University in New York.

Family nurse practitioner Kathleen Fundalinski has joined the palliative care team at Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland and Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins.
The palliative care team helps patients with pain and symptom management, maintaining quality of life, difficult decision-making and advance directives.
She earned a master’s degree from Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Ariz., and a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Regis University in Denver.
Physician assistant Bradley Martin has joined the team of providers at UCHealth Neurology, 2695 Rocky Mountain Ave., Loveland.
He joins a team that treats general neurological conditions and offers advanced diagnostic and treatment technology for disorders of the nervous system, including strokes, electromyography, electroencephalography and access to clinical trials for patients with epilepsy.
Martin is interested in neurological disorders in general as well as behavioral health and addiction medicine.
He received a master’s degree in physician assistant studies from Kettering College in Ohio.
