The Willow Street Improvements Project kicks off this month improving public infrastructure within the Downtown River District.
This project will improve Willow Street between Linden Street and the Great Western railroad tracks just east of North College Avenue. Goals include maximizing on-street parking, creating a welcoming, visually pleasing environment for existing and future land uses and honoring the culture and history of the River District.
While improvements are taking place between May 20 and this fall, Willow Street will be one way eastbound for traffic. The City will work closely with businesses, residents and the Northside Aztlan Center to ensure there is access available.
“We appreciate the patience of those who live and work in the area as well as visitors to Willow street while we work to improve this historical part of the community,” said Nicole Hahn, Project Lead for the City. “Once this work is complete the improvements will benefit the entire region.”
The project will draw inspiration from recently constructed improvements along Linden Street yet will be unique to Willow Street. Planned improvements include: 10-foot-wide sidewalks, protected bike lanes, a pedestrian plaza and drainage and utility improvements.
The improvements will be designed to be environmentally sensitive to the Poudre River and will be consistent with previous planning and construction efforts. Improvements will also be designed to facilitate infill development and coordinate with development currently in the planning process or already under construction.
