Relocation will enable Medical Center of the Rockies to care for more patients
FORT COLLINS, Colo. (June 26, 2018) – UCHealth Poudre Valley Hospital opened a new unit today to help people who have experienced major injury or illness to regain the skills necessary for everyday life.
In the new 14-bed rehabilitation unit on the third floor, staff and providers will care for patients with disabilities resulting from stroke, neurological disorders, brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, amputation, multiple injuries due to trauma and complex orthopedic conditions.
“Our job is to get patients back to living after suffering life-changing medical events,” said Dr. Dan Wilson, medical director of the new rehabilitation unit.
The state-of-the-art acute rehab setting provides patients with convenient access to other important clinical services on-site without the hassle of transportation during treatment. With ease, patients can access respiratory therapy and a rapid response team of physicians, nurses and other clinicians who are highly trained to diagnose and treat emerging and acute clinical issues.
The rehabilitation unit in the newly renovated space features:
- Private patient rooms.
- Ceiling-mounted patient lifts.
- Rehabilitation gym.
- Full training residential-style kitchen, bathroom and laundry.
- Specialized therapy rooms and equipment.
- Safe and secure patient environment.
For the past several years, the rehabilitation has been housed on the fifth floor of UCHealth Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland. MCR frequently is operating near capacity. Moving the unit to its new home at PVH will enable the MCR team to care for more acute medical and surgical patients. The former rehabilitation space at MCR will be renovated and is expected to be ready for patients later this summer.
