Platelet supplies are at an all time low state wide, and UCHealth’s Garth Englund Blood Center is asking both employees, and the public to consider donating to help save lives.
A recent increase in traumas, and chronic diseases has depleted platelet supplies at Poudre Valley Hospital, and Medical Center of the Rockies, according to Blood Bank Supervisor Amanda Barzack.
The blood types best for donating platelets are B+,B-, AB+, and AB-. Donations can be scheduled at either Garth Englund Blood Center locations in Loveland (970.624.1510) or Fort Collins (970.495.8965).
First time donors will have a platelet count completed prior to donating, and women who have been pregnant will receive a special test to make sure they are eligible.
