FORT COLLINS, COLO, Oct. 6, 2016 – The Human Bean, a community-oriented drive-thru coffee shop(s) in northern Colorado, hosted a Guest Barista Day on Sept. 8 at its Midtown Fort Collins location to benefit The Kayla Foundation. 10 percent of all sales during the day were returned to the local nonprofit, which totaled $320, plus additional cash donations.

The Kayla Foundation provides students within the Poudre School District with financial support so that they may participate fully in their school’s music programs. In addition, the foundation helps the school district and local nonprofits to enhance their music programs. Areas covered include uniforms, musical supplies, music therapy, retreat costs, instruments and much more.

“Music is so important to the educational experience of youth in our community,” said Frank Sherman, owner of The Human Bean. “The Kayla Foundation does incredible work to ensure that all students can partake in music education, and we are happy to support them.”

The Kayla Foundation was founded in April 2009 in honor of Kayla Marie Adsit, who was killed in a tragic car accident just before graduating high school in 2007. In order to continue her love of community and music, her parents started the foundation. Since its creation, the organization has given $70,000 in grants to 32 different local schools, two district-wide choirs and seven other nonprofits in the area. More than 22,000 children have been impacted by these grants.

The Human Bean is known for supporting numerous charitable organizations in the northern Colorado community. The Terry Farrell Firefighter Fund, OpenStage Theatre and Company, Lincoln Middle School and the Teacher’s Closet are just a few organizations that The Human Bean has recently benefited. The Human Bean’s largest philanthropic initiative, Coffee for a Cure, will return 100 percent of profits from all locations to local cancer projects on Oct. 21.
