Development adds 107-room Staybridge Suites and city’s first Johnny’s Italian Steakhouse to thriving Poudre River District

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – May 2, 2018 – Last night Fort Collins City Council voted to approve the Spirit at the River Development Plan by Spirit Hospitality to bring an extended-stay Staybridge Suites and Johnny’s Italian Steakhouse to 301 E. Lincoln Ave. within the Community Commercial Poudre River District. With this move, Spirit will immediately begin work on the project bringing economic, environmental and social benefits to the area.

“Fort Collins is a hub of economic activity anchored by its thriving downtown core and surrounding businesses, including Odell Brewing and Woodward, that need access to more extended stay hotel rooms to accommodate consultants and employees,” said Spirit CEO Bill Albrecht. “We are bringing this development to enhance the city’s offering to meet those needs while also working hard to support the environment in and around the property. We thank everyone for their feedback and work to bring this exciting opportunity to life for Fort Collins.”

The Spirit at the River Development meets the purpose and development model of the the Community Commercial – Poudre River District, including compatibility with the scenic, cultural, natural and historical context of the River and Downtown and fostering a healthy and compatible relationship between the River, the Downtown and surrounding urban uses.

With every development, Spirit works to enhance communities by focusing on design, development and landscaping techniques to minimally impact surrounding areas. The development includes a heavy focus on supporting the local environment. Spirit will be restoring 1.39 acres of habitat area between the property and the Poudre River and will be using native grasses, trees and shrubs in its landscaping to provide for wildlife habitat and foraging. The company will examine additional conditions to further enhance the natural habitat buffer zone, as approved last night. The bike share lane that will be built along Lincoln as well as the reduced need for transportation for Woodward and other business consultants support alternate transportation within the city. Spirit is using low impact development techniques that will reduce the ‘heat island effect’ that the current lot has produced.

About the Property

The Spirit at the River features a Staybridge Suites by IHG, Fort Collins’ first extended stay hotel north of the Harmony Corridor. The hotel will serve many large businesses that bring consultants, contractors and employees into town for training, work and more. The location of this property allows guests to integrate into the community with easy access to shopping, dining and entertainment, while having the ability to cook for themselves as desired.

Fort Collins’ first Johnny’s Italian Steakhouse sits on the first level, activating the street frontage and extending the feel of Old Town to Lincoln Avenue. The restaurant offers steak and Italian entrees and classic cocktails reminiscent of mid-1900’s supper clubs.
