COMMUNITY COMES TOGETHER TO BUILD A MEDICAL ROOM FOR ABUSED KIDS: UCHealth, Hillside Construction and Path21 Architects Renovate 136-year old Cottage at Voices Carry CAC

The cottage that sits behind Voices Carry Child Advocacy Center has been lots of things over the years: first, a home for the brothers who built it in 1887, then a milk house for decades, and most recently, a storage spot for an overcrowded non-profit serving child abuse victims.

Enter Matt Bowker and Colette Thompson from UCHealth, along with Sean Rogers from Hillside Construction and John Nap from Path21 Architects. As the group toured Voices Carry Child Advocacy Center and began to understand the agency’s work to reduce trauma to children who have been victims of abuse or another crime, they began to understand why a pediatric medical exam room was a natural and necessary next step. It didn’t take long for these great minds, and greater hearts, to decide that they were going to come together to see this project through to completion.

The group began drawing plans, examining every nook and cranny of the old milk house, and envisioning a renovation that would turn this old cottage into a state of the art pediatric exam room.

“For children who have experienced child abuse, especially child sexual abuse, the idea of having to undergo a medical exam, as part of the criminal investigation, can be quite overwhelming. It has been my dream to find a way to provide these exams in a location that is safe and child-friendly. Voices Carry Child Advocacy Center is that place, but there was just no room. As of today, all of that has changed,” said Deborah Crawford, M.D at Salud Family Health Center. Salud Family Health Center will work in partnership with Voices Carry to provide these medical exams.

Please join us on August 17th for an Open House from 4 pm – 7 pm at Voices Carry Child Advocacy Center, located at 5529 S. Timberline Road. A ribbon cutting and thank you to the many vendors and subcontractors who donated their time and materials towards this project will be at 5:30 p.m.

During the Open House, you will have an opportunity to tour our newly completed pediatric medical facility, as well as the entire Center, located in a historic property in south Fort Collins. You’ll also have an opportunity to meet the contractors, designers, and visionaries who made the renovation a reality.
