CASA of Larimer County Kicks Off Light of Hope Fundraiser

Mar 23, 2021 | Member News

In 2020, for the first time in five years, the number of dependency and neglect cases in Larimer County decreased. This is unlikely due to a decrease in child abuse, but rather a decrease in instances reported. With children at home during the pandemic without the presence of teachers, coaches, and other mandated reporters, abuse and neglect have gone undetected.

As such, CASA of Larimer County (CLC) expects dependency & neglect cases to increase as the pandemic wanes and in-person activity normalizes. CLC provides support for children who have experienced abuse or neglect by assigning Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASAs) to cases and offering supervised visitation services.

Their annual Light of Hope fundraiser is taking place 3.19.21 – 3.29.21 and has been adapted to a virtual format. The event is critical in preparing for the expected influx of child abuse cases, raising 15% of CLC’s operating budget. CLC served 566 children in 2020 despite the challenges of the pandemic, and plans to provide services to more than 600 children in-need this year.

The Light of Hope video program shares powerful testimonials about how CLC is changing lives. A courageous mother explains how she persevered through CLC’s services to be reunited with her son, and a foster parent, Board member, CASA volunteer, and donor share their experiences with how CLC can impact a child. CLC invites community members to attend to learn how the organization is addressing child abuse, and how they can make a difference for children in Northern Colorado.
