Banner Hosts Fort Collins Blood Drive
Banner Health is asking the community to donate in an upcoming blood drive at the new Banner Fort Collins Medical Center on Aug. 6, 2015, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. More than 50 blood donors are needed to fill a critical blood supply gap for daily trauma, surgery and cancer patients throughout Northern Colorado.
The blood drive will take place at 4700 Lady Moon Drive, located on the southeast corner of Harmony Road and Lady Moon Drive in Banner’s mobile unit. Organizers encourage blood donors to schedule an appointment in advance of the event by contacting Veronica at (970) 820-4580.
The mobile blood drive in Fort Collins is part of Banner Health’s larger effort to continually meet the growing demand for blood donation across the region. In addition to its mobile unit, Blood Donor Services has permanent blood collection sites at North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley and McKee Medical Center in Loveland.
“Because blood cannot be manufactured, we rely completely on blood donors to replenish our supply,” said Dee Gribble, Blood Donor Services Manager at North Colorado Medical Center. “By giving just an hour of your time, you can help save up to two lives.”
One blood donation typically results in two products that may be used in treating Banner patients. In 2014, for example, North Colorado Medical Center and McKee Medical Center transfused over 7,800 blood products to its patients through the generosity of donors.
Banner regularly holds Mobile Blood Drives for business and organizations in Weld County, Loveland, Longmont and Windsor. With Banner Fort Collins Medical Center now open, Banner is adding Fort Collins to the list of mobile donation sites.
In addition to getting adequate water and food prior to their appointment, blood donors must be healthy and bring a valid driver’s license to the mobile unit.
