The Arc of Larimer County Announces Sixth Annual Film Festival Winning Filmmaker, Kevin Rabon

FORT COLLINS, COLO. (DATE) – The Arc of Larimer County is proud to announce its Sixth Annual Film Festival winning filmmaker, Kevin Rabon, for his film “The Adventures of Rick and Lisa.”

Rabon’s film, which will be screened at The Arc of Larimer County’s ReFrame Disability Film Festival on March 2, documents a local couple living with disabilities in northern Colorado. The film explores what it was like for Lisa and Rick to grow up with disabilities, their life in the community and how they found each other.

“Once you see past our disabilities, you will see that we are able to do many things. We just want to be treated like normal, everyday humans beings,” said Rick, who communicates primarily through the use of assistive technology. “Think of what a person can do first before what they can’t do.”

Rabon was introduced to Rick and Lisa by Aubrey Waechter, who had met the couple in 2014 through SLiCE Adaptive Swim at Colorado State University and again at the Talking with Technology camp through Easter Seals.

“I knew I wanted to film their story to share with others,” said Rabon. “These two are so encouraging and positive to be around. We wanted to share their outlook with others, especially their message of inclusion, equality, strength in the face of adversity, and boundless compassion to those around them.”

Having grown up in Colorado, Kevin and Aubrey met while working with adults with disabilities and they both have very strong alignment with the mission of The Arc of Larimer County.

While Kevin and Aubrey will be traveling on the date of the festival, they have asked that Rick and Lisa accept the award on their behalf, including the $500 cash prize.

“The Adventures of Rick and Lisa” will accompany a variety of other local and

national short films at The Arc of Larimer County’s Sixth Annual Film Festival, ReFrame Disability, on March 2, 2018. Held at Colorado State University’s Lory Student Center, the film festival starts at 6 p.m. and goes until 8 p.m. Films range from two minutes long to 16 minutes long, focusing on individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (I/DD). Some films will be serious, some humorous but all will spread awareness.

Andy Kiatkowski will emcee the 2018 Film Festival. He is a 19-year-old student at the University of Colorado in Colorado Springs studying Filmmaking within the Digital Communications Department.

Tickets to the Sixth Annual Film Festival can be purchased through the CSU Box Office on campus or online at www.csutix.universitytickets.com. All proceeds support the mission of The Arc of Larimer County.
