Loveland, March 8, 2018: McKee Foundation is now accepting scholarship applications for the 2018-2019 school year. With $5,000 to award per scholarship, these scholarships are available for high school graduates, adult learners, and nurses who are seeking careers in the healthcare field or looking to advance their careers. The Scholarships will also remain in effect with the students as they continue their education. The application deadline is April 1,, 2018.

“We anticipate awarding $50,000 in scholarships each year,” says Allis Gilbert, Executive Director of McKee Foundation. “We have been awarding scholarships to individuals in Northern Colorado for many years amounting to more than $500,000 total.”

In addition to scholarship opportunities already offered by the McKee Foundation, in 2014 anonymous donors wanted to fund a scholarship in honor of Marge Schafer, who was a dedicated nurse at McKee Medical Center for 25 years. The Marge Schafer Nursing Scholarship was thus started to honor her for her years of nursing and caring contributions to the community. The Schafers also decided to contribute funds to help launch this scholarship.

“Our entire community benefits from helping to educate young nursing professionals from the area and then encouraging them to stay,” said Schafer. “Speaking from experience, nursing is such a rewarding career!”

This year’s scholarships will be the first in a cohort of student the Foundation will support throughout the length of their education. Gilbert adds, “We are hoping to become a part of the students’ support systems and encourage them in their educational pursuits. The scholarships are bigger this year, and we want to ensure students are supported throughout their entire education, not just the first year.”

As part of its ongoing commitment to wellness, education, and ensuring critical resources are provided to those in our community, McKee Foundation annually awards these scholarships.
