FORT COLLINS, COLO, Dec. 13, 2016 – The Human Bean, a locally owned and community-minded drive-thru coffee shop, raised more than $50,000 during its Coffee for a Cure fundraiser to benefit local cancer projects. On Oct. 21, 2016, all eight northern Colorado Human Bean locations donated 100 percent of sales to the cause. Weld County locations collected $27,127, which will benefit the North Colorado Medical Center Breast Cancer Fund, and Larimer County locations collected $22,892.96, which will benefit the Poudre Valley Hospital and Medical Center of the Rockies Foundation Oncology Patient and Family Support Fund.

“We are incredibly grateful for all the customers and donors who contributed to the 11th Annual Coffee for a Cure,” said Frank Sherman, owner of The Human Bean. “We surpassed last year’s amount by $10,000 and look forward to supporting local cancer fighters again next year.”

During the day of the fundraiser, each of The Human Bean locations welcomed nurses and hospital employees as guest baristas so that they could talk with donors about the programs that are receiving the funds.

The Poudre Valley Hospital and Medical Center of the Rockies Oncology Patient and Family Support fund helps women with breast cancer pay for basic needs after diagnosis including insurance premiums, prescriptions, co-pays for office visits/procedures and more.

The North Colorado Medical Center Breast Cancer Fund benefits women who meet a poverty level of 300 percent, which helps women who do not quite qualify for Medicaid but cannot afford high-quality health insurance. The funds will help women cover diagnostic mammograms and biopsies, as well as prescriptions, co-pays, and living expenses for those who are undergoing treatment. 100 percent of funds are kept for women in Greeley and surrounding towns.
