Install a programmable thermostat to keep your house comfortably warm in the winter and comfortably cool in the summer.
Use compact fluorescent or LED light bulbs with the ENERGY STAR® label.
Turn off your computer and monitor when not in use.
Plug home electronics, such as TVs and DVD players, into power strips; turn the power strips off when the equipment is not in use (Electronics in standby mode can still use several watts of power).
Lower the thermostat on your hot water heater to 120°F.
Ensure weather stripping on doors and windows are in good condition to minimize air flow throughout your home.
Ensure there is proper amount of insulation throughout attic. Attics are one of the main sources of air leaks in a home.
Insulate around outlets and light switch plates to avoid drafting.
