Fort Collins Habitat for Humanity is joining forces with Poudre High School students to build a second annual home for a local family. The collaboration will be celebrated at the “We Build” breakfast Sept. 30 in the Poudre High School gym, 201 N. Impala Drive in Fort Collins, followed by a wall raising ceremony in the PHS parking lot.
“The birth of a new home for a family in need is always a momentous occasion,” said executive director Kristin Candella. “But this wall raising is especially noteworthy because students will have the opportunity to learn real-world experience and the value of service.”
For the next year, 80 Geometry in Construction students, grades 9-11, will participate in building the new home in the PHS parking lot to not only practice geometry skills but become involved members of the community as well. Students from Poudre High School’s Geometry in Construction program will put what they learn to the test as they help Fort Collins Habitat for Humanity build their the home in partnership with the Laughlin family. The house will actually be built by the students over the course of the school year on high school grounds, and then moved to the Ridgewood Hills neighborhood in June where the Laughlin family will reside.
