Your Fort Collins Area Chamber has been a key advocate and leader in the effort to expand North I-25 to three lanes from Fort Collins to Longmont by 2025. We have been leading the charge for the last 11 years and were thrilled to join various public and private partners from across the region for the official ground breaking of Segment 5 – the 6-mile segment of North I-25 from Berthoud to Mead.
This groundbreaking was a tremendous celebration of all that business and government have done to advocate for this important economic solution for northern Colorado. You can read more about the groundbreaking and this project here: https://www.codot.gov/news/2024/may/cdot-celebrates-start-of-i25-north-express-lanes-mead-to-berthoud.
As I reflect on the comments shared by various speakers at the event, I was especially energized by Colorado State Senator and long-time transportation partner Barbara Kirkmeyer’s thoughts. She reminded all of us that this big, audacious goal of expanding an important transportation resource only happened through the power of coalitions and local investments of more than $90M into the overall project. I invite our community to think about the next great coalition that we should support to create the future that we desire. Keep an eye on your Chamber – we are ready to be the convener and catalyst that drives that vision!
Separately, the ground breaking reminded me that we are fully in the season of road construction – on all of our travel ways. I invite you to pack your patience and a little extra travel time as you make your way around Fort Collins, the region and the state. And don’t forget that there are humans and businesses behind each cone you encounter. Many of our local businesses have extended cone zones in front of them – please take the time to support those impacted. A couple of great resources to help you through construction season include:
