SUMMARY:JUNE 10 – The Making of a Novel: Albania Through Desiderium
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a captivating literary evening with debut novelist Julie Furxhi\, whose novel Desiderium has earned recognition as a longlisted title for Mslexia’s 2023 First Novel Competition and an Editor’s Choice selection by the Historical Novel Society. \nIn this immersive author talk\, Julie will share the journey behind her writing. Offering insight into her creative path\, the inspiration and evolution of Desiderium\, and the rich cultural and historical threads of Albania that shape the novel’s world. Drawing from her own travels to many of the book’s real-life settings\, Julie will bring the story to life with photographs\, reflections on the landscape\, and historical context that deepen the reading experience. \nDesiderium weaves together the lives of three unforgettable women across generations\, navigating grief\, resilience\, and transformation against the backdrop of Albania’s turbulent past. From rebellion in the early 20th century\, to wartime resistance\, to modern-day discovery\, the novel explores how history lives on in the present and how the human heart endures. \nFollowing the talk\, stay for a Q&A session with Julie. Copies of Desiderium will be available for purchase\, along with a book signing. \nGuests will be treated to a sensory taste of Albanian culture: Albanian coffee along with homemade byrek and baklava lovingly prepared by the author’s husband. \nCome for the story\, stay for the conversation! \nWed\, June 10\, 6:00 – 7:30 PM \nDoors Open at 5:30 PM. \nAdmission $10 \nAuthor Talk\, Followed by a Q&A and Book Signing. \nAlbanian Style Coffee served with Homemade Byrek and Baklava.

SUMMARY:Beyond the Month: Expanding How We Understand Black History
DESCRIPTION:Black history is more than a designated month or commemorative observance. Those who advanced the study of African American history envisioned it as a year-round\, interdisciplinary pursuit. This interactive presentation invites participants to engage with Black history through a humanizing lens—one that foregrounds the many stories\, epistemologies\, and lived experiences that shape it. \nDr. Alexander Pittman is an Assistant Professor of History in the Department of History at CSU\, where his work sits at the intersection of Social Studies teaching\, History Education\, and African American History. He holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Multicultural and Equity Studies in Education from The Ohio State University (2024)\, a Master of Science in Management from the University of South Florida (2015)\, and a Bachelor of Science in Education with majors in History and Social Studies from Central Michigan University (2011). \nDr. Pittman leads History Harvests through History Matters as a way to bring local history out of the archives and back into the community where it belongs. Local and state histories are often oversimplified or reduced to stereotypes — and much of the history of everyday life never makes it into traditional archives\, libraries\, or museum collections at all. It lives instead with everyday people: in the objects they keep\, the meanings they attach to them\, and the stories those objects carry. \nThe next History Harvest will be hosted at the Global Village Museum on June 27th. \nFri\, June 12\, 6:00 – 7:00 PM \nDoors Open at 5:30 PM. \nAdmission $10 \nRefreshments and light snacks provided.

SUMMARY:CIVIC Conversations - Code of the West: Is it Still Relevant?
DESCRIPTION:  \nInspired by the ethos expressed by the writer\, Zane Grey\, then Larimer County Commissioner\, John Clarke\, issued a 13-page booklet entitled\, Code of the West: The Realities of Rural Living in 1997. Within it\, the Code issues disclaimers and offers advice for those looking to embrace life outside the city.  Calling attention to specific issues to which new arrivals should be aware\, the central themes are integrity and self-reliance. \nAlthough detachment from the urban lifestyle offers many advantages\, inconveniences abound for those unfamiliar with living in remote areas\, according to the booklet.  Don’t expect emergency responders or the postal carrier to find you.  Road maintenance may be your responsibility.  Agricultural uses create a bucolic setting\, though animals create smells and farming is loud\, dirty and may require bright lights when and where neighbors may not like.  Code of the West: Is it Still Relevant? \nPlease join us on Monday\, June 15\, at Horse & Dragon Brewing for a thoughtful dialogue on issues that are important to the well-being of our community. \nCIVIC Conversations is sponsored by Elevations Credit Union and hosted by the Fort Collins Area Chamber.

SUMMARY:Be the Business They Find First - Winning Web Searches on Google and AI with SourceOne Digital Solutions - Lunch & Learn

You need the right local strategy — and that’s exactly what SourceOne Digital Solutions delivers. We position your business where decisions are made—on Google Search\, Google Maps\, and beyond. \nJoin SourceOne Digital Solutions for a short\, eye-opening session on how local businesses are positioning themselves to show up first on Google\, Maps\, and AI search. \nMore calls. Based in Fort Collins\, Colorado\, he brings together enterprise-level technology experience\, digital marketing expertise\, and a natural ability to build meaningful relationships. \nBrooks holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Computer Science from Emory University. He built the foundation of his career at Hewlett-Packard Enterprise\, where he held senior roles including Category Manager for Data Center Hybrid Cloud (Federal)\, Enterprise Storage Segment Manager for the Americas\, and positions in global business development. These roles shaped his deep understanding of technology\, enterprise strategy\, and scalable growth. \nSourceOne Digital Solutions \nIn 2018\, Brooks founded SourceOne Digital Solutions with a clear mission: to give local businesses the tools and visibility they need to compete at the highest level. In 2020\, SourceOne was recognized as Best Northern Colorado Marketing Agency by NOCO Style Magazine and has since grown into one of the region’s most respected digital marketing firms. \nSourceOne specializes in maximizing visibility across Google’s most influential platforms — Search\, Maps\, and the Map Pack. Brooks and his team understand that businesses appearing in the top Map listings capture the majority of customer attention\, while those that don’t risk losing business to competitors. \nTo solve this\, SourceOne uses a proprietary dual-track strategy that combines Google Map Pack optimization with AI Overview visibility. The result is a consistent\, 24/7 presence in front of high-intent customers at the exact moment they are searching. All performance is fully measurable\, with clients able to track increases in calls\, website visits\, direction requests\, and customer acquisition through Google Analytics 4. \nCommunity Leadership \nBrooks is an active member of the Fort Collins Chamber of Commerce and a strong advocate for local business growth. He is known for his approachable style\, integrity\, and genuine investment in the success of his clients. Whether working with a small business owner or a national franchise\, he brings the same level of focus\, strategy\, and commitment to every partnership. \nWhy Brooks Hinkle \nBrooks combines corporate-level expertise with a deep understanding of the local business landscape. He understands the challenges business owners face because he is part of the same community\, and he understands the strategies that drive results because he has spent his career mastering them. \nFor businesses looking to increase visibility\, attract more customers\, and compete more effectively\, Brooks Hinkle and SourceOne Digital Solutions offer a proven and trusted solution. \nSourceOne Digital Solutions | 621 Park St.\, Fort Collins\, CO 80521 \ns1digitalsolutions.com | 970-670-9163

SUMMARY:Global Screening: Sama in the Forest\, Q&A with researcher Coralynn Davis\, At the Lyric Cinema
DESCRIPTION:Join us at the Lyric Cinema for a special screening of Sama in the Forest (2023\, 75 mins)\, a hybrid documentary set in contemporary Mithila\, where ancient cultural traditions meet the pressures of a globalized world. \nThe film follows the legend of Sama\, a young princess slandered\, cursed\, and banished by her own father\, brought to life through women’s storytelling\, elaborate traditional paintings\, dramatization\, and a yearly festival in her honor. Students and teachers at the Mithila Art Institute are at the heart of the film\, alongside community voices that paint an honest picture of social tensions in Mithila today. \nFollowing the screening\, join a Q&A with Dr. Coralynn Davis\, Professor of Women’s and Gender Studies and Anthropology at Bucknell University and the film’s producer. A three-time Fulbright Grant recipient and author of Maithil Women’s Tales\, Dr. Davis brings decades of ethnographic research to this conversation. \nThis event takes place at the Lyric Cinema.
