Walk in Beauty: A Writing Party

February 21, 2019 @ 12:00 am

Melanie Yazzie, Navajo sculptor, painter and printmaker, uses playful imagery in her series of prints to tell her life story. The balls of yarn from the wool her mother spun to make traditional Navajo rugs, a dog mask from Halloween, tools, toast, and other imagery from her life dances through her series of prints narrating the wonderment and happiness of life. Sydney Pursel uses costume, dance and video to narrate her identity-based narrative. How does she reconcile her bi-racial heritage- Native, Celtic and Irish-American? What advice will you receive from her Medicine Man Infinite Wisdom Machine? Put a quarter in the machine and find out. Brenda Mallory uses recycled materials to stitch together and celebrate her Native heritage by using disparate materials to destabilize the viewer. Think about your wonderment, your heritage, your costume, your dance, your destabilization and come ready to write.
