Portugal draws thousands of visitors from around the world each year. Part of the attraction is the beautiful tiles that cover walls, buildings, train-stations, and even some streets. Portuguese tiles date back to the 15th century when they were used to cover walls of churches and palaces. Pottery workshops began to emerge in Lisbon in 1560, and the tiles transformed into a national art form. With beautiful patterns and intricate details, the tiles have evolved over the years.
In this class, you will learn about the art form of mandalas in tiles as you create your own variations of traditional designs. At the end of class, you will select one of your designs to be printed onto an 8×8 tile that can serve as a trivet, a table centerpiece or even a wall decoration.
This is an intermediate/advanced class. Prerequisite is an Intro to Mandalas class and/or confidence in using a compass and protractor.
Adults only.
