The Australian Didgeridoo: One Awesome Instrument will be presented from 1:30-3 pm Saturday, Sept. 16, at the Global Village Museum of Arts and Cultures. Doug Powell, a didgeridoo maker and player in Fort Collins, will survey the history and use of the instrument among the Aboriginal people. In addition to performing for the audience, Powell will address traditional vs. modern construction methods and materials, the contrast between traditional and western playing, the varying sounds of the didgeridoo, and didgeridoo breathing techniques. He will also bring his didgeridoo collection for audience members to try out. Admission to the program is $5 per person, and refreshments will be served. Advance reservations are required at globalvillagemuseum.org. The presentation is in conjunction with Australia and New Zealand: Miles Apart in the Museum’s Main Gallery. The exhibition, which runs through Nov. 18, explores the rich cultures, histories, and arts of the two countries. The Global Village Museum is located at 200 West Mountain Avenue, and Museum hours are 11 am to 5 pm Tuesday through Saturday. For more information, visit globalvillagemuseum.org or call 970-221-4600.
