The Fort Collins Area Chamber office is open by appointment only on Thursday, December 26, and Friday, December 27.
Special Olympics Colorado (SOCO), Colorado’s premier sports organization for individuals with intellectual disabilities, is thrilled to host its annual Polar Plunge Series presented by Westerra Credit Union. Polar Plunge is a cold-weather fundraiser aimed at raising $400,000 to provide critical funding for more than 15,000 Special Olympics Colorado athletes. The next event in the series will take place at Windsor Lake, located at 100 N. 5th St., on Saturday, March 27 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
A Polar Plunge is a unique event where participants enter a body of cold water to raise money for SOCO. Entering its thirteenth year in Colorado, Polar Plunge is one of SOCO’s most recognizable fundraisers and provides supporters an easy way to raise funds, engage with athletes and have fun for a great cause.
The 2021 Polar Plunge Series takes health and safety very seriously. As a result, the series is a mix of modified in-person events and virtual, at-home offerings. In addition to the Windsor Plunge, other in-person plunge locations include:
• Boulder Plunge + 5k Run – April 10 – Boulder Reservoir
• Aurora Plunge + 5k Run – April 17 – Aurora Reservoir
• Colorado Springs Plunge Roulette + 5k Run – April 24 – UC Health Park
New in 2021, participants may also choose to “chill at home” by taking a video of their plunge activity and tagging #VIRTUALPLUNGECO on Facebook or Instagram. Additionally, Colorado Springs Plunge participants can enjoy the world’s first Polar Plunge Roulette. Teams spin a wheel and are doused by whatever the wheel lands on ice-cold water, a mystery beverage and more.
“Polar Plunge represents the best of Special Olympics Colorado,” said Megan Scremin, Special Olympics Colorado president and CEO. “With plunges from Trinidad to Windsor, this effort showcases how people from across Colorado can come together to support our athletes when they need us most.”
The fundraising minimum to plunge is $75 (students and SOCO athletes are $50). To learn more about the Windsor Polar Plunge and to register, visit specialolympicsco.org/event/windsorplunge/.
