House Concert at MoA with Lois and the Lantern
On a dusty dead-end road just outside of city limits, a group of women met monthly to escape the world and to play music. From one of those laughter-and-whiskey-filled jams, both the legend of Lois and the Lantern and the band were born. Originally the brain-child of members Mary Merritt and Theresa Brodzinski, Lois became a reality when Saja Butler and Tara Sparks joined the band in 2014. Comprised of four very different personalities, the result is a genre-bending fusion of styles and influences that is anything but your typical string band. A dynamic combination of punk-laced mandolin, sexed-up banjo, driving folk-grass guitar, and funky bass uke, topped off with layers of sublime vocal harmonies, woven throughout captivating, story-driven lyrics, Lois and the Lantern is an experience for your ears.
