Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is a holiday that originated in central and southern Mexico and is celebrated in Mexico and the United States on Nov. 2. It is a remembrance of how our loved ones lived and enjoyed life. On the two Thursdays prior to Nov. 2, art workshops will be offered for individuals and families of all types to come together to create ofrendas, or vibrant memorial altars to honor deceased loved ones. A box will be provided as a container for the ofrendas and participants are encouraged to bring items from home to represent their loved ones (such as candles, large photos of the person, favorite knickknacks, food or tools that were important to them). The workshops will include ofrendas building, as well as an art activity related to the traditions of the Dia de los Muertos holiday. Attendance for both events is highly encouraged but not required.Thursdays, Oct. 18 & Oct. 25, 5:30-8 p.m.
REGISTRATION REQUIRED. Deadline for registration is one week prior to workshop.
Individuals: $15 per workshop
Families (3 or more) $40 per workshop
