Adventures in Ragtime

The process of taking the piano stride style from likes of Scott Joplin, Tom Turpin, and Joseph Lamb, and translating it to guitar. From there, showing how ragtime evolved, how ragtime is viewed today, and how it can still be a relevant American music style.
Performance: In Adventures in Ragtime, Nathan Smerage performs ragtime music on solo guitar, from originals to covers, sophisticated stride-style to rural grit, showcasing the lasting impact this music has made upon popular music. This workshop and performance is a stop on his tour from Sante Fe to Minneapolis. His workshop and performance are free and open to the public.
