Coalition of Business & Elected Leaders Calls for Dedicated Transportation Dollars in This Year’s State General Fund Budget
Would Address Growing Transportation Crisis; Help Spur Billions for Roads & Bridges
DENVER, CO–Referencing the conflicting state revenue forecasts for transportation and some positive news on state revenues, the leadership of Fix Colorado Roads once again stressed the need to address Colorado’s growing transportation funding crisis. Fix Colorado Roads is urging leaders crafting the state budget to dedicate a permanent General Fund investment to update and expand the state’s roads and bridges.
“There is a growing groundswell of support from business and community leaders across Colorado urging our legislators to make transportation a budget priority again,” said Sandra Hagen Solin. “The status quo is simply untenable. Our roads and bridges aren’t keeping pace with our state’s growing needs, and that presents a drag on our economy and a threat to our quality of life.”
Today’s state revenue forecast underscores the importance for legislators, and Gov. John Hickenlooper to dedicate a General Fund investment this year to transportation – which would be the first such investment in 7 years. This investment would also be a key part of a bipartisan effort to create a $3.5 billion bond program that would support road projects statewide touching literally every legislative district. Among the signature expansion projects included would be:
- I-70 West: ROD projects throughout the corridor plus seed funding for the next phase of expansion
- North I-25: State Highway 14 (Ft. Collins) south to US 36
- South I-25: Monument to Castle Rock.
