FORT COLLINS, Colo., (April 28, 2016) – It has been less than a month since Apricot Lane Boutique in downtown Fort Collins opened its doors, and already the women’s clothing and accessories store is giving back to the community through their support of Girl Scouts. On Saturday, April 30, eight Girl Scouts from Troop 72648 of Greeley will be at Apricot Lane, 119 West Oak St., from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. to wrap Mother’s Day gifts that are purchased at the store. They are charging $1 per item plus additional donations to raise funds for a trip to Orlando, Fla., in September, as well as to assist with their “Buddy Benches” project to benefit local seniors.
“I’m so proud of these girls for their dedication to Girl Scouts and to the community,” said owner Judy McLean. “It’s my pleasure to welcome them to the store, and I’m excited to make Mother’s Day extra special for shoppers.”
The girls from Troop 72648 have been working hard to raise money to visit Orlando so that they can attend the Principals of Animal Behavior program in Disney World and are very close to meeting their goal. On a local level, the girls are creating and decorating “Buddy Benches” to give to senior citizens in the community. To assist with the project, the troop is accepting donations of old wooden benches, paint, pallets, scrap wood, nails, screws, hammers, etc.
“We would love to see the seniors relax and read a book on one of our benches,” said Crystal Richardson, leader of Troop 72648. “We are going to paint them and design a neat mural on the bench for all to enjoy and to bring a smile to their faces.”
Along with the Girl Scouts fundraiser, Apricot Lane will be celebrating Mother’s Day by engaging the community through additional specials. From April 24-May 8, shoppers will receive a free Mother’s Day mug with a purchase of $75 or more. McLean will also be on the prowl for “mom-ism” sayings that are posted to Instagram and reward her favorite with a $50 gift card for the poster.
