The Science of the Stench

October 28 @ 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Event flyer for "The Science of the Stench: Corpse Flower Research Reception" with details about a Halloween-themed event at CSU, featuring a large corpse flower on the right and a QR code for RSVP.

We’ll unveil a brand-new mural inspired by CSU’s own corpse flower, Cosmo, alongside fascinating new research findings from scientists Jessica and Val, who are uncovering what makes this giant plant so rare, mysterious, and yes—famously smelly. Although Cosmo won’t be blooming this season, guests will have the rare chance to see it in its impressive vegetative form, a stage that reveals the plant’s enormous size and resilience but is almost never witnessed outside of research settings.

The evening will be filled with opportunities to sip seasonal refreshments, mingle with fellow plant enthusiasts, and immerse yourself in the eerie yet beautiful ambiance of the Conservatory. Between the art, the science, and the sheer curiosity of Cosmo itself, this event offers a one-of-a-kind celebration of one of nature’s strangest (and stinkiest) wonders.
