GREELEY, Colo. — The University of Northern Colorado Athletics and KMKZ (93.5 FM Pirate Radio) announced a new partnership and the flagship station for UNC Football.

“The Bears are excited to team with KMKZ,” UNC Athletics Director Darren Dunn said. “We are moving in a new direction as an athletics department and I am appreciative of this local station supporting our local team. Through this partnership, we look forward to creating a new and exciting experience for our partner, the athletics department, and our fans.

KMKZ will carry all 12 UNC football games in 2024, featuring play-by-play announcer Jacob Govero and Fred Shaw as the color analyst.

“We are excited to partner with the UNC Bears and bring our listeners closer to the heart of college football,” KMKZ owner George Gray said. “This collaboration is a fantastic opportunity to support an NCAA Division I team in Northern Colorado and provide our audience unparalleled access to an exciting season. Govero is originally from Festus, Missouri and is a Missouri State alumni. He provided the play-by-play for the Colorado Spartans of the National Arena League radio and television simulcast this past season. Over the last two years, Govero hosted the morning sports report for KMKZ, covering UNC, the Rockies, Nuggets, Avalanche and all things sports-related along the Front Range. He’s covered sports with multiple publications as a freelance sportswriter.

Shaw, a native of Shawnee, Oklahoma, is the current head coach for the Colorado Spartans. He was a Shawnee High School Hall of Fame inductee and played on both sides of the ball at the University of Central Oklahoma as a wide receiver and cornerback, earning first-team honors as a receiver. After a long and successful professional playing career, Shaw moved through the coaching ranks and earned the 2022 National Arena League Coach of the Year accolade.
