Act a Lady by Jordan Harrison

Bas Bleu Theatre Company of Fort Collins is ecstatic to announce the second
mainstage production of its 31st Season, the riotously farcical ACT A LADY, by
Pulitzer Prize finalist Jordan Harrison. When the Elks Club of a small Prohibition-era town decides to put on a Christmas fundraiser dressed in “fancy-type, women-type clothes,” the whole community is affected: gender lines blur, eyebrows raise, identities explode, and life and art are forever entangled.
Clever, poignant, and downright hilarious, ACT A LADY is inspired by the famous
“Womanless Wedding” in 1927 Lanesboro, Minnesota, organized by Teman “Jumbo”
Thompson, local furniture store owner and the town undertaker, who also ran the
ambulance service. The entire Lanesboro business community participated, and the
result was referred to as a “rollicking farce.”
The production is directed by Steve Keim, who helmed last season’s powerful and poetic Pulitzer Prize-winning BURIED CHILD.
Called “sweet, sly, and subversive,” and the hit of the Humana Festival of New Plays,
ACT A LADY will be presented November 24th through December 17th at Bas Bleu Theatre, 401 Pine Street in Fort Collins. Performances begin on Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30p.m., and at 2:30 p.m. for the Sunday matinees.
Tickets: $30/adult, $25/senior, $8/student, $6/Quest card (please contact the box office
for details about this rate) There will be a Pay-What-You-Will/preview performance on
Friday, November 24th. Tickets can be purchased at basbleu.org, or by calling 970-498-8949.
