Traditionally, electricity is generated by burning coal to produce steam, which in turn, spins large impellers to generate electricity. This means that electricity from the grid is a byproduct of burning fossil fuels (coal). Every kWh of electricity generated by solar is a kWh that was not produced by burning coal. Therefore, installing solar has a tremendously positive impact on the environment. For example, a 50kW solar array reduces CO2 emissions by an average of 100,000 lbs. annually!
