Amid concerns of COVID-19 and several organizations shifting to remote work, Chartered Technology, an information technology (IT) company based in Loveland, will offer free online cyber security training for local Northern Colorado companies.
As the global health crisis intensifies, cybercriminals are escalating their attacks, targeting a new massive pool of employees working from home. With more people relying on technology and spending their time online, cybercriminals are exploiting fear and uncertainty related to the coronavirus through phishing and email scams, among many others. These cybercriminals pose themselves as credible sources such as the World Health Organization, IRS or even a local utility company.
Recent security reports reveal that 95 percent of data breaches are caused by employee error. Cybercriminals use scams to access passwords, networks and other valuable company data. According to data from a CNBC report, 43 percent of cyber-attacks are aimed at small businesses, and these incidents can cost businesses up to $200,000 in reparations.
To help keep the valuable information of local organizations safe during this time of crisis, Chartered Technology will offer its cyber security training for free for organizations and people who have had to move to a remote working model. Through video-based learning, the online training will teach employees:
- How to protect Personally Identifiable Information (PII) and sensitive company data
- Real-life threats that target them and the company
- Best practices to avoid falling victim to a cyber security attack
- What to do if they suspect a data breach
Upon completion, employees will receive a certificate of completion. All training records and certificate documentation for employers are accessible through Chartered Technology’s portal for simplified tracking and quick reference.
“We’ve offered this course for a long time, but in this period of uncertainty, and with so many Northern Colorado employees working from home, we felt it was important to protect our local workforce from scammers preying on the vulnerable during this pandemic,” said Rob Protzman, owner and president of Chartered Technology. “We know employers are going through hard times right now. If we can offer our support to them in any way, we hope to relieve at least some of their stressors.”
