Tom Hanks collects typewriters, Angelina Jolie saves antique knives, and Johnny Depp accumulates bugs and animal skeletons. So what do Northern Coloradoans collect and why?
Inside Scoop: Collectors’ Stories premieres 6-8 pm on Thursday, August 25, in conjunction with the newest exhibit at the Global Village Museum of Arts and Cultures. “Bring me back a souvenir! Global Travelers and Grand Memories” opened July 1 (through Oct. 22) and showcases over 30 collections of international travelers who make their home in Northern Colorado.
Lynda Lloyd’s collection of international watches includes a Mao Tse-tung watch from China and a timepiece from the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam. Marge Catt’s collection of corn husk dolls began when she and her husband were posted to the U.S. Army Russian Institute in Garmisch, Germany in 1986. A pool game in Austin, Texas led to a stockpile of shot glasses.
These and other stories will delight and entertain young and old alike. Attendees will enjoy tea and light refreshments from 6-6:30 pm before “the scoop” begins at 6:30 pm. The anecdotes and experiences of the global travelers will be a grand memory itself!
With four galleries and a Museum Shop, the Global Village Museum is located at 200 West Mountain Avenue. Hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 11-5 pm. For more information, call 970.221.4600 or visit globalvillagemuseum.org.
