It seems like only yesterday millions of people were unemployed due to the so-called ‘Great Recession.’ Now every week there’s a story in the press about tight labor markets.
An example is a story posted yesterday on TheHill.com titled “14 States Hit Record-Low Unemployment”. According to the story “In March, eight states saw new record lows, including Hawaii (2.1 percent), Idaho (2.9 percent), Kentucky (4 percent ), Maine (2.7 percent), Mississippi (4.5 percent), Oregon (4.1 percent) and Wisconsin (2.9 percent).”
In Colorado, the author notes an unemployment rate of “2.6 percent, among the lowest in the nation, and a third of the 8.9 percent peak it hit in 2010.”
In the face of those kind of numbers, as you well know, employers are scrambling to find and develop talent.
The Chamber and it partners from the City of Fort Collins Economic Health Department, City of Loveland Economic Development Department, Larimer County Economic Development Department, Larimer County Workforce Center, Loveland Chamber of Commerce, Northern Colorado Economic Alliance and United Way of Larimer County are doing their part with an initiative called Talent 2.0.
