Business – K-12 Work-Based Learning

Work-based learning (WBL) is an educational strategy integrating real-life work experiences with academic learning. It encompasses various activities that help bridge the gap between classroom education and career skills, allowing students to apply their academic and technical skills in practical settings while they earn high school credit.

About Stefanie Merrell, Our K-12 Work-Based Learning Business Manager

Stefanie holds a unique and impactful role in connecting local businesses with the future workforce through innovative work-based learning (WBL) experiences for high school students. As part of the Fort Collins Area Chamber of Commerce, Stefanie partners closely with Colorado Early College Fort Collins, Poudre, and Thompson School Districts to bring together education and industry through robust work-based learning opportunities.

Acting as a trusted liaison, Stefanie helps businesses tap into a pool of motivated, work-ready students who are eager to gain real-world experience in their chosen career paths. She identifies companies that can benefit from fresh perspectives and energetic talent, then guides them through the onboarding process on the Xello platform—a regional one-stop-shop where businesses can post paid part-time jobs, internships, job shadows and other valuable WBL opportunities exclusively for local high school students.
