The Fort Collins Area Chamber office will be open from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm on Tuesday, December 31, and closed on January 1, 2025
“I didn’t know this many people cared about us.” Those are the words, exclaimed with astonishment, by a person experiencing homelessness when he saw the large number of people walking in the Mission to Hope Walk last year.
We think Northern Colorado is a an incredible place to work, play, attend school and live, and we bet you do too. But the reality is that many of our neighbors struggle with homelessness and housing insecurity. In Poudre School District alone, 1,152 children experienced homelessness in the 2017-2018 school year. At this moment 424 residents are experiencing chronic homelessness, almost half who report a disability, on the streets of Fort Collins. The Murphy Center serves about 3,000 unduplicated people annually.
Homelessness Awareness Week, December 1st – 7th, is your opportunity to LEARN, GIVE and ACT. It’s your chance to see beyond the statistics: to walk alongside people housed and houseless, and to interact person-to-person. The Walk includes people who are housed, insecurely housed, and experiencing homelessness.
Mission to Hope Walk, Saturday December 7th at 8 am. This year we have a new 1.8 mile route that steps off at Catholic Charities, pauses outside the Fort Collins Rescue Mission, then concludes with an Open House at the Murphy Center for Hope. There will be a free breakfast provided by Catholic Charities at 7:30 am before the walk and coffee and donuts at the Murphy Center after, with tours and opportunities to learn more about our 20-strong collaborative of non-profits. This is a family (and dog-friendly) event, open to all ages. Come on your own or with a group, bring a faith/company/group banner if you’d like, and take advantage of our longer, more prominent route to be a visible show of support and care for those who struggle.
Will you please support our organization by attending this event? Please sign up today. If you have any questions, please contact Pam Brewer ([email protected]). We have complementary tickets for the Walk for people experiencing housing insecurity or homelessness, as well as youth groups and others who may not have the resources to attend. Let Pam Brewer ([email protected]) know if you’d like to arrange that for anyone you may know.
Thank you!
