Larimer Chorale Presents War & Peace – October 26, 2019 – 7:30 pm at Lincoln Center in Fort CollinsFranz Joseph Haydn and Ralph Vaughan Williams were both composing in the shadow of approaching war. Haydn in 1796, as Napoleon advance on Vienna, and Vaughan Williams in 1936. Haydn’s Missa in Tempore Belli (Mass in Time of War) is one of his finest compositions and is both symphonic in scale and richly expressive in spirit. Vaughan Williams’ Dona Nobis Pacem (Grant Us Peace) is intensely moving as it depicts the brutality of war and laments for the fallen – all in the hope for a peaceful world. The martial sounds of trumpets and drums feature prominently in both works. Presented with full orchestra and professional soloists along with the 120-voice Larimer Chorale.
