NORTHERN COLORADO [May 31, 2017] – The Human Bean, a community-oriented and locally owned drive-thru coffee shop, is celebrating World Blood Donor Day on Wednesday, June 14 with various philanthropic activities. The Human Bean’s location at 821 N. College Ave. will be hosting one of UCHealth’s mobile blood buses from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. so patrons can donate blood in a safe and convenient environment. In addition, The Human Bean Coffee Truck will be at the UCHealth Family Medicine Center, 1025 Pennock Place in Fort Collins, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. and is donating 10 percent of sales back to the UCHealth Garth Englund Blood Center.

“We are so fortunate to live in a community that understands the life-saving value of donating blood,” said owner of The Human Bean, Frank Sherman. “It is with great pleasure that The Human Bean supports donors and the medical community by being a part of World Blood Donor Day.”

Made possible through our community’s generous supporters, UCHealth was able to replace its old blood bus for two new, state-of-the-art buses to benefit even more patients in northern Colorado. One blood donation can save two lives, especially those who are battling cancer and other diseases. Statistically speaking, the need for blood donations is higher in the summer due to an increase in accidents, which is why it is especially necessary that the community supports this event. In order to donate blood, candidates must be over 18 years of age and weigh 120 pounds (110 pounds for prior donors). Full requirements may be found on UCHealth’s website.

The Human Bean has fostered a close relationship with UCHealth over the past decade through its well-publicized Coffee for a Cure fundraiser. The Human Bean hosts Coffee for a Cure every October and donates 100 percent of sales from all eight northern Colorado locations from a given day to local cancer causes. In 2016 alone, The Human Bean donated nearly $23,000 to UCHealth’s Poudre Valley Hospital and Medical Center of the Rockies Foundation Oncology Patient and Family Support Fund.
