ChildSafe, a local nonprofit that provides therapy for childhood trauma and abuse victims, is pleased to announce the hiring of Kathleen Baumgardner, co-founder of FoCo Cafe, as their new Executive Director. Ms. Baumgardner will start on November 1, 2022.

In the Executive Director role, Ms. Baumgardner will lead the organization’s fundraising efforts while building its capacity. This allows ChildSafe to serve as many abused children in Northern Colorado as possible. While commonly known as co-founder of FoCo Cafe, Ms. Baumgardner has been in Hawaii for the last five years. She has served the previous four years as a strategic planning project manager at the University of Hawaii at Hilo. She is excited about the return to Fort Collins and is ready to employ her transformational leadership skills at ChildSafe.

“We are so excited to have Kathleen join our team,” said ChildSafe Clinical Director Valerie Macri-Lind. “Her skills and leadership will be invaluable to us as we grow for the future.”

Ms. Baumgardner shares: “I am honored to join the team. ChildSafe works to help children, adults, and families who have experienced child sexual abuse not just survive but thrive and live their fullest and happiest lives. I cannot imagine more purposeful work than helping make life-changing therapies available for people in our community, workplaces, and schools. I want to invite community members to stop by ChildSafe’s upcoming open house to see our amazing facility, a place of healing, safety, and support.”

ChildSafe is in its 36th year serving abused children and their families in Northern Colorado. With a trauma therapy specialty of childhood sexual abuse, they have seen record client numbers over the last few years. 73% of their clients fall below the national poverty line, and they never turn anyone away due to inability to pay.
