SECURITY SERVICE CHARITABLE FOUNDATION DONATES $5,000 TO HELP CHILDREN BATTLING HOMELESSNESS

Funds to provide food and cleaning supplies The PLACE in Colorado Springs

The Security Service Charitable Foundation donated $5,000 to The PLACE of Colorado Springs, Colorado. This donation will be used to provide food and cleaning supplies for the shelter that helps children battling homelessness.

“We’re the only licensed shelter for youth in the Pikes Peak region solely focused on programs to support youth experiencing homelessness,” said Shawna Kemppainen, executive director for The PLACE. “This donation from the Security Service Charitable Foundation will help us provide our services like housing, education, employment support, healthcare, meals, and more to the homeless youth.”

The Security Service Charitable Foundation’s donation will be used to purchase food. The shelter serves around 20 young adults and teens, three meals daily, 365 days per year. The donation will also help the shelter purchase much-needed cleaning supplies to keep common areas clean and sanitary.

“The PLACE is instrumental in guiding the homeless youth in improving their quality of life,” said Brandon Blanchard, senior vice president of member service—Mountain Region for Security Service Federal Credit Union. “It feels great to contribute to the well-being of these children in our community.”

The PLACE serves 600 to 700 young people each year in El Paso County, CO. Some youth come to the organization from other areas of the state or nation. However, more than 75 percent of the young people the organization works with lived in a home in Colorado Springs and the surrounding area prior to falling into homelessness. The Security Service Charitable Foundation helps further Security Service Federal Credit Union’s corporate goal of community service by contributing to deserving organizations and causes in the credit union’s market areas.
