The Arc of Larimer County will host two human resource workshops, in recognition of National Disability Employment Awareness Month, to help employers obtain the most recent knowledge about the Americans with Disabilities Act, locate valuable employees they have not considered previously and knowledge in accessing valuable local resources for your human resources tool belt.
More than 90 percent of consumers prefer businesses that hire people with disabilities, yet 85 percent of adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities are not currently employed. The Arc of Larimer County shows how successfully businesses can make simple and affordable accommodations to adopt socially sustainable hiring practices.
“Half of all accommodations made to employ workers with disabilities cost nothing,” Marilee Boylan, The Executive Director of The Arc of Larimer County, said. “With little cost and minimal effort, employers can tap into a labor market that’s reliable and can eliminate the mound of critical tasks that build up for business over time.”
The Arc of Larimer County’s workshop series provides employers with the skills to successfully hire and manage workers with disabilities.
Americans with Disabilities Act (Sept. 21, 11-1:30): Learn about ADA basics, latest regulations, tax credits as well as myths and facts involved with hiring people with disabilities. Presentation will include case examples and sample accommodations.
Hiring People with Disabilities (Oct. 12, 11-1:30): Panelists discuss where to look to hire workers with disabilities, local employer resources and ongoing support for employers with inclusive hiring practices.
Both workshops will be held at The Drake Center in Fort Collins.
Registration is $50 for each course or $90 for both, and includes lunch.
