At the end of 2014, Sierra Trading Post also operated 6 stores, averaging approximately 28,000 square feet in size, in the U.S. We plan to open 2 additional stores this year that integrate the value-driven outdoor concept of Sierra Trading Post with the successful off-price model for which our retail brands are known.
The planned growth of the Sierra Trading Post division has created an opportunity for a Merchandise Buyer, in Outdoor Sportswear. This newly created key role reports directly to the Merchandise Manager of the High Performance areas area and is based in our Cheyenne, Wyoming headquarters with flexibility to also work in our Fort Collins, Colorado satellite office. We are seeking a buyer with a passion for the outdoor and sportswear while understanding core business metrics and analytics. This person must thrive on building partnerships by eloquently explaining our business model, be a strong negotiator and embrace a dynamic work environment.
These categories have been identified as growth areas and we are looking for a catalyst that can cultivate and manage this responsibility.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
The categories encompassed in the position include outdoor lifestyle apparel, casual outdoor accessories and performance first/base layers for men and women.
Ecommerce or omni buying experience preferred.
Candidate must demonstrate a proven track record of exceeding business goals.
The candidate must relocate to Cheyenne, WY or Fort Collins, CO areas. There is opportunity to work part-time out of the Fort Collins Technology Office.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Category management:
- Build strong product assortments that are compelling and represent incredible value and excitement to the customer;
- Demonstrate the ability to strategically analyze and understand a multi category open-to-buy;
- The ability to purchase goods under specific margin, inventory turn and net investment requirements;
- Establish strategic plans for sales, inventory and growth;
- Manage markdowns;
- Pulse of the marketplace and competition;
- Analyzing and reacting to business trends.
Review products for potential purchase with the ability to:
- Perform inventory analysis;
- Perform sales history analysis;
- Determine quantity to be purchased based on a cash neutral position;
- Determine what strategic price points must be hit while achieving starting margin goals;
- Negotiate with vendor to purchase merchandise with the best possible price value relationship.
- Develop and maintain strong business partnerships through communication, integrity and follow-through;
- Persuasiveness – be able to motivate and influence others through verbal and written communication;
- Comfortable presenting proposals and STP business model to upper level management;
- Work with international and domestic vendors to develop special make up products, ensuring quality, function and fit are within the STP standards;
- Work with ecommerce and catalog merchandising coordinators to promote product;
- Demonstrate poise, tactfulness and diplomacy including positive people skills, and a team approach attitude;
- Maintain flow of office responsibilities -computer (proficient with Word, Excel), daily communication, phone coverage, working with other departments;
- Proofing product copy and images on website;
- Travel to industry trade shows and vendor headquarters. Approximately 30+ days travel per year:
