Strong Women: Introducing Role Models to Children Through Books – FREE Event

March 7, 2018 @ 12:00 am

In celebration of Women’s History Month, a panel of Colorado children’s book authors will discuss how having strong women characters in their books is a positive influence on children.
Strong Women: Introducing Role Models to Children Through Books is a free event open to the public. (Donations to Bas Bleu to support local theater are appreciated.)

The panel includes:

Teresa Funke is the award-winning author of WWII books based on real people and events. Her latest book in her Home-Front Heroes Series was just released March 2. War on a Sunday Morning is about the Pearl Harbor attack and its effects on the Hawaiian community and a thirteen-year-old girl who must find her bravery. Rose Williams is inspired by a Fort Collins resident.

Jeannie Mobley writes historic fiction and frames strong women in traditional or ordinary circumstances. Her books have won Colorado Book Awards and have landed on state reading lists. Mobley will be discussing Katerina’s Wish, Searching for Silverheels, and Bobby Lee Claremont and the Criminal Element.

Linda Osmundson writes “looking at art” books for ages 7-107. How the West Was Drawn: Women’s Art won the prestigious Wrangler Award from the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum. She will address the challenges women faced in the arts and share some of those women’s images.

Natasha Wing is a bestselling author whose book, When Jackie Saved Grand Central: The True Story of Jacqueline Kennedy’s Fight for an American Icon, received two star reviews. With Jackie’s influence, the fight was pushed into the national spotlight and the court case went all the way to the Supreme Court, and has since aided preservationists in helping save their own historic buildings.

A book signing will follow the discussion.
