The City of Commerce

Jul 28, 2015 | Economy, Government & Policy

You may have seen the soapbox in the newspaper recently proposing that the Chamber of Commerce merge with city government. The new entity would be called the “City of Commerce.”

It was a little hard to follow, but it appears the writer thinks that city government does whatever the chamber wants so they may as well just merge.

Now wouldn’t that be something! Housing would be affordable, projects would get approved in a fourth of the time, everybody that wants a job would have one commensurate with their education, skills and experience and everything would be rainbows and unicorns. Until that fanciful day, the Chamber will still attend all City Council meetings and every other local government meeting of significance to watch out for the interests of business. City of Commerce – kind of has a nice sound to it don’t you think?
